Tomatoes

Had to put stakes on the tomatoes yesterday. They are growing fast. You can see how we put our grass clippings in the garden rows. Check out the flowers in the bottom photo.

The Jersey Tomato

You can see the saucers I make around my tomatoes to allow the water to go diectly to the roots. I just planted my peppers on the right side of the photo. Pictures taken on 5-9-2007.

Picture of the Day

I got this shot while at the Airshow. Is this familiar? Nobody is manning their post. Is this how our borders are run? I thought it was funny myself.

Planting my Tomatoes

Check out the nice roots since I transferred the tomatoes to bigger pots earlier. This gives the plant a real healthy start. Set the plant in middle of hole, then fill around root ball with the Miracle Grow potting soil. Make a saucer, then sprinkle a little potting soil on top. Water the plants with a pail in the saucers. Get ready for some nice tomatoes! Remember they need water to grow. I water every night as long as its sunny the first week. After that start to let them go longer and the roots will grow deep. Check back to see how fast they grow.

Planting my Tomatoes

Tools of the trade are some Epson Salt, a digger, and some Miracle Grow potting soil. The tomato plant ready for the planting. I have a raised bed row that I dig a hole in, then sprinkle some Epson Salt in bottom. I then put a little Miracle Grow potting soil in next. next post for more pictures.

The Jersey Tomato

If you are following along, your tomatoes should look pretty good in the bigger pots now. Now I watch the weather carefully because in my area frost free date is May 15. I try to get them in early if possible, but not if its going to be too cold at night. Check back for the next update.
